SELCO
launched a revamped version of it’s 1987-88 Beat the Peak
program (BTP) in early January 2006. The original version of BTP used
the CATV Emergency Alert System to notify Shrewsbury residents to
conserve energy during peak load periods by overriding all cable channels
with a message of conservation.
The new version of BTP is much less intrusive than the original
version. It consists of a message that appears on front page
of the Town of Shrewsbury website. A message will also appear on
the Weather Channel (Ch 12) during peak use.
The message is triggered when the electric use load, availability,
and spot market price of energy in New England warrant a warning.
The BTP message was used only three times during the 1987-88 winter
period.
The BTP message on the website will appear as shown below:
The top message reads: “Curtail Non-Essential Use of
Electricity”
The bottom message reads: “SELCO is experiencing peak
use. While loss of service is unlikely, please conserve energy
at this time to help keep electric rates down. Thank you!”
This message will appear at the top of the front page within the Town
of Shrewsbury website when activated. Visitors can close the message
by clicking the “X” in the top right-hand corner, or
the "close window" link following the main message. For
Internet Explorer users, the notice window will close automatically
after 15 seconds. |
