$25 SELCO Energy Star Dehumidifier Rebate

SELCO is now offering a $25 rebate on Energy Star dehumidifiers purchased from June 1, 2008through July 31, 2008.

Rebate will appear as a credit on your electric bill.  Limit one dehumidifier rebate per SELCO customer.  Shrewsbury residents only.  For details and rebate form call SELCO, or visit www.shrewsbury-ma.gov/rebates.

Now’s the time to replace your old, inefficient dehumidifier with a new Energy Star model.  Dehumidifiers are notorious “energy hogs,” and frequent use can have a noticeable impact on your electric bill.

Energy Star qualified models have more efficient refrigeration coils, compressors, and fans than conventional models, which means they use less energy to remove moisture.

An Energy Star dehumidifier removes the same amount of moisture as a similarly-sized standard unit, but uses 10-20 percent less energy. In fact, the energy saved by an Energy Star qualified dehumidifier could power your refrigerator for 6 months!

Look for the Energy Star logo to be sure you’re getting an energy efficient model.  An up-to-date list of all Energy Star approved dehumidifiers can be found online at www.energystar.gov/dehumidifier.

SELCO Low-Income Money Match Program

SELCO is now offering a “Money Match” program whereby eligible low-income SELCO customers can make a payment on their electric bill and SELCO will match the dollar amount paid as credit to their bill. This is an opportunity to increase the benefit of the federal tax rebate by essentially doubling its value.

To qualify for the 2008 SELCO Money Match program, the name of the customer of record on the account must meet one or more of the following eligibility requirements:

  • Emergency Aid to Elderly, Disabled and Children (EAEDC)
  • Fuel Assistance – South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC)
  • Supplemental Social Security Income (SSSI)
  • 2008 SELCO Share The Warmth Recipient
  • Food Stamp Program

Minimum/Maximum Contribution
Customers may request a match amount up to the total of their electric bills for the months of January, February and March but not less than $50 or more than $300.

Customers who meet eligibility requirements may be granted the match amount even though they do not have an outstanding balance due to their SELCO electric account. Some customers who are in dire financial need may pay SELCO bills on-time but continue to struggle in other ways.

SELCO Money Match credits will be given for eligible payments made from May 1, 2008, through June 30, 2008. All Money Match payments must be accompanied by a SELCO Money Match application form and proof of eligibility.

Return Money Match forms, payments and proof of eligibility by June 30, 2008 to:

Each year we ask the community to support this program that assists needy Shrewsbury residents with funding to maintain electric service for heat, light and hot water through the cold winter months. Each year the community responds kindly.

“Residents have been very generous through the years in donating money to this program,” said Thomas Josie, general manager of SELCO. “We appreciate and thank them for their support to help neighbors who may have difficulty affording basic services.”

Show Your Support for GreenLight

Go ahead, pat yourself on the back. It's OK to feel good about signing up for SELCO GreenLight. And while you're at it, let the neighbors know you support renewable electric generation too. To thank residents for signing up, SELCO will give each GreenLight customer a free green-colored energy efficient light bulb. We're encouraging GreenLight customers to use these bulbs in their front porch lights to show their "true colors." Spread the word about green power... You'll be the talk of the neighborhood!

SELCO customers can sign up for GreenLight at www.shrewsbury-ma.gov/light/greenlight.asp or by calling the SELCO office at 508-841-8500. For just $5 or $10 a month you can help fund wind power generation in New England.

Energy Saving Lightbulbs Available

Purchase energy saving light bulbs at the SELCO office and help cut down on electric energy costs. If everyone in Shrewsbury replaced just one incandescent light bulb with an energy saving bulb, the community would save over $156,000 in electricity costs annually. Bulbs are available while supplies last - limit three bulbs per SELCO account.
